Having video content on your website is an excellent way to immediately engage visitors. It can also increase your search engine rankings, as Google gives weighting to websites that contain video content. If linked with YouTube, it also opens your brand up to a potentially huge search volume (YouTube has 3bn daily video views).
So what could be better than creating your own videos for your business or brand? Getting your users to do it for you!
There’s two ideas to mull over here. One might be that you create a competition where by users upload a video to enter into a competition – you and your colleagues select the best one and that is the winner. The video could be anything to do with your product or service. The second is the automatic videos that are likely to occur simply by bringing a product to market – where users film themselves using your product and, more often, the unboxing of it.
Take the Dollar Shave Club for example. The video advertisement they produced went viral fairly quickly and currently has millions of views, but by searching YouTube for “dollar shave club unboxing“, you’ll see video after video of users filming themselves opening their first parcel from the company. User generated content, without even asking – simples! (Note: it doesn’t just apply to the Dollar Shave Club, try “iPad unboxing” or “MacBook Pro unboxing“.)
So, what’s the point here? The more video content you have on YouTube the more likely you brand will be found by potential customers. My suggestion to you is to take advantage of both of the above – run a video competition asking users to film themselves using your product for the very first time – then reward the best video with a prize.
Look at it this way, as well as increasing the online visibility of your brand, increasing awareness of your product or service, and encouraging users to create video content for you, you’re also running a customer feedback campaign where you can directly see what your customers think of your product!
If you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll find the Dollar Shave Club video advert below. It’s worth a watch and great piece of video marketing.
